UK engineering 2016: an independent review
IET, ICE and IMechE November 2016

The Institution of Engineering and Technology, Institution of Civil Engineers and Institution of Mechanical Engineers commissioned Professor John Uff to conduct an independent review of the profession of engineering in the UK. This report covers a wide range of issues, including the division between university and employment-based or apprenticeship training which, it states, is “…still attended by ill-informed prejudice and snobbery…”


Knowing Practice: Vocational Thresholds for GPs, Carpenters, and Engineering Technicians - summary report
NZCER January 2016

New Zealand Council for Educational Research (NZCER) researchers interviewed GP registrars, carpentry apprentices and engineering cadets about their practice-based learning. They focused particularly on people’s most significant learning experiences and found that certain characteristics were shared across all three fields. Knowing Practice: final report

This report studies how student retention is affected by learners’ sense of social and academic integration. The research findings showed that students found activities that combined social opportunities with an academic context as important in helping them to continue with their degree programmed, and that they valued the integration-focused activities evaluated in the research.


National Engineering Education Plan
Engineering New Zealand 2010

The National Engineering Education Plan was developed with guidance from tertiary educators, industry training organisations, industry stakeholders and the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand. This report sets out a national plan for ensuring that the right numbers of the right types of graduates are produced to meet New Zealand’s needs.
